Donal Carbaugh

Donal Carbaugh
Donal Carbaugh is Professor and Director of the Graduate Program in Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and recipient of the university’s Samuel F. Conti Faculty Research Fellowship. The invitation to write this article has created an opportunity to bring together several threads of the author’s and his colleagues’ earlier works into one paper. The first and second sections draw explicitly on various earlier works cited below (especially Carbaugh, Nuciforo, Saito, and Shin 2011, 87-88, 101-106); the fourth section from a part of a longer paper presented and published in China (Carbaugh 2012); and the fifth from several papers published over the years which are focused on Native American, Blackfeet communication and thoughts those studies have created concerning an integrative view of nature and culture (e.g., Carbaugh 2005, 82-119; 2007). The author thanks the editor and staff for this opportunity.
