Dr Julia Plessing

Julia Plessing is Project Lead for Research at the French-German Forum for the Future, Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS). She studied International Relations at the University of Sussex (BA, Hons) and the University of Amsterdam (MA, Hons).  She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Johannesburg. Her research interests include democracy and the role of media, citizen participation in unequal contexts, and post-colonial views on North-South relations. Previously, Julia held positions with various NGOs counteracting discrimination and far-right extremism, with GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) in South Africa and as an independent research consultant.
