Beata Boór

Research and Teaching Assistant at the Department of Economic Sociology, University of Vienna

Beata Boór is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Vienna, with a background in political economy, labour sociology, and postcolonial studies. In her doctoral project, she examines how young people in Austria negotiate and contest dominant meanings of work through a mixed-methods design that combines qualitative interviews with survey-based analysis. Her research critically engages the social and cultural dimensions of inequality, focusing particularly on youth – a group often sidelined in political and academic discourse. She adopts a critical, interdisciplinary lens informed by power-sensitive, postcolonial, and participatory methods and perspectives. Her work addresses cultural contestation, labour market dynamics, evolving meanings of work in contemporary societies, and alternative visions of the future. International research and study experiences, including time spent in Latin America and at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies, have further shaped her sensitivity to global inequalities and diverse epistemic standpoints. She has presented her research at international conferences and academic workshops, worked with young people in both academic and volunteer settings, and remains committed to amplifying marginalised voices in research and practice. Currently, she is a research and teaching assistant at the Department of Economic Sociology, University of Vienna.
