Urban scholar interested in territorial governance

Mosè Cometta is an urban scholar interested in territorial governance. He deals with socio-political conflicts related to spatial justice and the right to the urban – especially in marginal urbanities. His work focuses on the analysis of different territorial realities from the perspective of extended urbanisation and within the planetary urbanisation/ruralisation debate. He has focused on the urbanisation of the ‘wilderness’, analysing the creation and arguments behind Protected Areas projects, as well as other institutional discourses, to bring out their underlying social and territorial values and conceptions. In this context, he has also dealt with populist pathologies of public debate as a symptom of unresolved social conflicts. Another research stream that he follows closely are studies on urban and social development in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland, especially regarding the power relations between its alpine communities and its urban centres.
